Today our middle turns 18. Since Gabriel was small, he insisted - TopicsExpress

Today our middle turns 18. Since Gabriel was small, he insisted on doing things, his way. He even came into this world, on his terms ~the OB was called in for an emergency C section. (but the great Stacy Stacey Haynes Archer, was able to do her magic, so I didnt have to have one) Gabriel is no bullshit, stubborn, loyal (almost to a fault), creative, has intense feelings, loud, impulsive, explorative, hilarious(cracks my ass up!), pensive and respectful. He is out of the box. All of the qualities that I love in people, though the formative years can be brutal for such, as youth celebrate conformity, not creative individuality. This son has taught me more about myself and how I respond to life in many, many ways. He has challenged me to stretch and love, more than I would have, left on my own. He has helped me understand the complicated, to understand my own struggles, especially the ones I had as a youth. I always said when we lived in Atlanta, that Gabriel would be the one to move out west and carve his own way. Well, he is. I am literally watching this son mature into an amazing young man, watching him figure out hard life lessons and seeing the ugly side of people and make choices that can be lonely and difficult, the ones leaders and entrepreneurs have to make. The best is yet to come, for him, away from the box, of where we live. To the world of the Navy, to the set of Saturday Night Live and everything in between and beyond. The Hebrew meaning of Gabriel means, strong man of God. God used those, with the craziest, most colorful pasts. I am so thankful for him. So very proud. Today we celebrate this young man.
