Today, the church remembers the life and witness of Peter Claver, (who died on this date in 1654), a priest who was a missionary to Colombia. Claver, who was born into Spanish nobility, became a missionary, served in present-day Colombia, and focused ministry on the slaves that arrived there. He gave them food and medicine, learned their dialects, and taught them Christianity. Let us thank God for all faithful missionaries!
