Today there was a tornado warning in my part of Montgomery County, Maryland. The e-mailed notice said it might come hidden in heavy rain, unlike the tornados I remember in Kansas, where the sky turned yellow. The notice said to take refuge in your basement, which is where I was anyway, squirreling away on the computer as usual. But I put on a heavy wool hat, thick jacket, and gloves to protect myself from falling and flying debris if a tornado hit. I have plenty of wine in the basement. Guess I could have put a bottle in my pocket in case I got trapped under a few thousand books. I looked pretty funny. The wind blew hard, and the rain fell in sheets, but we didn’t even lose electricity. Better funny-looking than sorry…
