Today together with Centum Chairman Chris Kirubi, Mathari MCA George Ogolla, Nairobi County Executive for Education Christopher Khaemba and Centum CEO James Mworia I presided over a ground breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of Mathari Primary school. I want to thank CENTUM for committing Ksh 120 million to fully finance what will turn out to be the state of the art school. We chose Mathare for this project, because of my belief that all children in Nairobi City County deserve to access quality education. In October this year, I launched a similar project in Kibera. I want to introduce centers of excellence in every slum in Nairobi. Education is going to be the route through which to transform Slums like Mathare. My vision as the governor of this great City of Nairobi is to offer globally competitive, quality basic education and training for sustainable development, while my mission will be to provide, promote and manage globally competitive basic education and training for the general welfare of Nairobi residents. Quality education can only be achieved where the school environment is child friendly. A child friendly school is where there is effective teaching and learning, effective use of resources and child centered learning.
