Today turned out to be a very long day. This morning Maddie and I - TopicsExpress

Today turned out to be a very long day. This morning Maddie and I went out for our first post ankle injury jog. My heart, my lungs and my head and my pup loved every second. My foot, not so much. It was sore while I was jogging. I pushed a bit because everything else felt so good but not much later I paid the price. Swelling and discomfort, again. I am disappointed. Back to ice and elevation tonight. I really thought I was passed this and was ready to go. Patience is not my best quality. We drove about 400 mikes today continuing left footed. I gave Maddie her Dramamine and I dont think it helped at all. A little later I gave her Mellow Mutt treats. Those seemed to work a little better than the Dramamine. What seemed to work best was frequent breaks and I squished her. She sat behind me while I drive and I pulled up the back of my seat and squished her. I am going to pick up the thunder vest when I get into Jackson tomorrow. The driving today was somewhat difficult over Diamond Dinosaur Prehistoric Highway. It is loaded with 8-10 percent grades, first up then down as we went over the mountain pass and also back to back switch backs. I was white knuckled for a bit, I almost had one if Maddies Mellow Mutt treats. Ive included a photo of the winding road we traveled but the photo cant capture the true grades and curves. It was very slow going. Interestingly though, the reason this scenic byway has this name is because prehistoric creatures did travel here. There is a town called Dinosaur, a national monument and a museum which tells of prehistoric times in this area. The Dinosaur National Monument has real dinosaur bones and fossils to see and feel. As I drove along there were road signs along the way explaining what the sea level was and what prehistoric fossils were found in the area. One sign said, Stegosaurus once roamed here. Pretty neat. We proceeded on through Flaming Gorge, a beautiful reservoir, arched bridge and dam. It was named in 1869 by John Powell as he was exploring the Colorado and Green Rivers. He named it flaming Gorge because of the way the red rocks light up like fire when the sun shines on them at certain angles. We didnt see the gorge in flaming sunshine but it was still a very scenic ride. We made it just south if the Tetons. It got late, the sun was setting and we were hungry. We checked into a lovely campground and will continue our trek to the Tetons in the morning.
