Today was a victory for soccer; Not because of karma, not because of a FIFA conspiracy, and not because of the unjust World Cup reffing that has preceded this game. It is a victory because this Brazil team came to represent many of the evils that plague the beautiful game today: they defended by fouling, they attacked by diving, they chose physical skill-less players and left their real talent on the bench or at home, and (unrelated to the game itself) they became a scapegoat for a corrupt politician. Germany moved in the exact opposite direction, looking more like the 1970 and 1982 Brazil teams than Brazil has since then. I hope that Brazil and world football have taken note that the anti-futbol style of Mourinho / Dunga / Pinto is not the future, it is a fad. The beautiful game wins.
