Today we are taking action against the neoliberal university. We demand: - That senior management publicly express support for a system of free education, funded by the taxing the rich, and do everything in their power to pressure for an end to the tuition fees régime. - That University of Manchester management increase bursaries in real terms, not cut them. - That the University of Manchester stops using international students as cash cows — they should be treated no differently to any other students. - That the University of Manchester severs its ties to the fossil fuel industry. - That the university does not make a profit from student accommodation and that no student is offered accommodation which is above the amount they receive in loans and grants. - That the University of Manchester becomes an accredited living wage employer. - Democracy: we do not want our university governed by overpaid bureaucrats or the market, for capitals ends; but by students and workers, for the sake of critical thinking and the benefit to our communities. - That no students or staff are threatened or victimised for exercising their right to protest and to stand up for a future free from debt and privatisation. We will continue to organise and fight until these demands are met.
