Today, we lost another great vocal institution-Manna Dey. He was my personal idol and in my early years of learning music, i used to dream to sing on the same lines as manna dey. The perfect bridge between chaste classical vocals and light film tunes was manna dey. I dont know how much the new age of musicians appreciate manna dey, but i will say this, Manna Dey has left a void which cannot be filled. I sang songs of rafi saab kishore saab, Mukeshji, talat saab all my life and with great joy, but when it came to manna dey, the challenge was tougher by far. I have never till date heard a better qawwali then na to karvan ki talaash hai nor anything to compare with Jhanak jhanak tori baje or Sur na saje really today I say sur ke bina jeevan soona. Manna sir, i miss you.
