Today we will profile two more of our Oceania Athletes who are heading to the Cook Islands for the Oceania Championships. The first athlete could be fondly described as the Grandfather of the PNG Athletics Team - Mowen Boino. Mowen Boino – 400 metre Hurdles Federation: Papua New Guinea Age: 34 Personal Best: 50.37 - 21 March 2006 - Melbourne 21 march 2006 Season Best: 51.49 - 12 August 2013, Moscow Mowen Boino is one of the longest competing athletes for Athletics PNG, but he is still managing to keep his performances in line with the best. In 2000 Mowen competed for PNG at the Sydney Olympics and the again in Athens and Beijing. Mowen was also selected to compete on the Oceania Team at the World Cup in Athens in 2002. Regionally Mowen is still a powerhouse in the 400m Hurdles collecting medals at many Oceania Championships and Pacific Games. Mowen now spends much of his time in Vanuatu with his wife and children. At 35, Mowen is truly a Master of his event! Mowen is the current Papua New Guinea 400 metre hurdles record holder. Mowen will leave Rarotonga to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
