Today while decorating the Christmas tree, I dropped and broke a glass ornament which gave my daughter Meredith and me a chance to reminisce about the time when she was very little and I would only let her hang the non breakable ornaments--and then I broke two. After that I always let her handle all the ornaments since I realized I was more likely to break something than anyone else, regardless of age. Meredith, whos 19 now, admitted she was happy when I broke something that time. If it happened now [foreshadowing what was going to happen in about 30 minutes], Id be sad that something broke, but that time I was thinking, haha, Mom. I think this is a family tradition--like its not officially Christmas until Mom breaks something ;) Interesting tip she also shared: a slice of bread works well to clean up broken glass.
