Today, while walking, my thought kept going to a particular - TopicsExpress

Today, while walking, my thought kept going to a particular subject, which I did not particularly want to think about but after a few moments I went with it. The thought was; One must experience the death of the ego. How many times have you heard that as it sprang out of the neo-psychiatric movement started by Sigmund Freud and became the banner of the New Age movement of pop psychology? The ego in and of itself, is all part of what makes you up. It is like your muscle, skin, heart, brain, arms and legs. It is a vital part of you. Your ego may have character defects. These character defects of the ego are sometimes acted out and they invariably bring results to your lives that you might not want. If you continue to engage in these character defects, you will continue to have undesirable results in your lives. That is the part of the ego that must experience death and a rebirth. How does one change themselves or get rid of a character defect? One can go to the heart, your heart and ask a question, make a decision, then honor your heart. For example; you get angry today. You would go to your heart and ask, “I am about to expend a lot of energy, is it going to be worth it?” You can also ask, “Will the anger I am feeling change anything or make it better?” How you answer this question can have an enormous impact on how your day goes, even how your life goes. Once you decide the answer to this question, you need to honor your heart by saying, "Thank you for the power to change my thoughts. I have chosen to be happy and to experience peace of mind." One does not have to ‘kill’ the ego in order to be humble or to experience humility. What needs to be done is to ‘kill’ the lack of self-worth that produces arrogant thinking and defensiveness. It is a good idea not to confuse confidence with arrogance or assertiveness with aggressiveness. A confident person will have no need of arrogance and an assertive person will have no need of aggressiveness. Being abusive, verbally or physically is always, without fail, the result of a lack of self-worth and esteem. It is all about being in control of your ego rather than it controlling you. To try and eliminate the ego would result in death. Eliminating the ego would cause a breakdown in communication between the vital aspects of your being. Too many confuse the ego with arrogant thinking. You must learn the difference between being controlling and being in control. A controlling person is never in control. Maybe you will walk with me a ways and think on this and arrive at your own conclusion –Will Davis
