Today workers and the various unions in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are celebrating May Day- Workers Day, yes its all fair and good for workers to celebrate the strides and achievements of the forefathers who have struggled to get better working conditions. However, in this era I question the relevancy of the existing trade union movement when so much wrongs are taking place in work places and they hardly raise their voice to assist workers, not even a note sometimes to acknowledge they have received your complaints. Yes, some workers are complacent, non productive but there are still genuine workers out there who are willing to contribute and make a meaningful contribution towards the development of the nation. We have come to accept mediocrity, gossip is the order of the day. How can we meaningfully celebrate May Day when workers are fighting each other, spending most of their time plotting evil to affect another, but its all dumb cause in the long run we are just harming ourselves. In this time when the world is experiencing a severe financial crisis and lets even pay attention to what is happening at home, the nonsense needs to stop, we need to be a unifying force and get down to action, our nation is suffering, thats the reality.
