Today would be a good day to order a copy of one of my books. Reward yourself with an accomplishment of a “Friend” who is currently, in real time trying to make a difference. A person’s “Civil” (General public) work and accomplishments is valued much more after their death but I’d rather you not look forward to or wait for that. Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Day; the accomplishments of Dr. King’s life has had a major impact on mine but “During” his life I was far too young and far away from where he was mostly doing his work to be actively involved in what he was doing and it wasn’t until 1983 when President Reagan declared the 3rd Monday (Under the Uniform Monday Holiday act) of January a Federal Holiday in observance of his life his birth date (January 15) as a major holiday that most people in our country and the world begin to recognize and appreciate even more, all of his efforts. The holiday wasn’t officially observed in all states of the continental USA until 2000 and still some states give the date different names. Parts of Japan, Canada, and a few other countries strongly recognize and observe Dr. King’s birth date as a day of “Peace”. Dr. King’s resilient and brave efforts earned him the position and title “Chief Spokesman” for nonviolent activism during the 60’s civil rights movement. Under State and Federal law he bravely and successfully protested racial discrimination. Today we give “Thanks”, “Recognition”, and “Appreciation”, for a Life “Well Lived”.
