Today would have been my grandma’s 89th birthday. So I figured it would be a good time to post this “recently discovered” picture, courtesy of my mom Mary Lu & Charlie. So, take a look at this picture and see if you recognize this lovely couple. A few of you may, a few of you may not. We think we do. When my grandma passed we were asked to write a few words, stories to put in a book of memories. I really didnt know what to write. I didnt know whether to talk about all the wonderful meals, from the pasta to the red beans, to my favorite – Crawfish Bisque. Or when I was a kid she would wait up for me to open up the sliding glass door, because I would never stay the whole night out when I would camp-out behind the railroad tracks with my friends. But no matter what it always seemed like we picked up from where we left off, no matter how much time had passed since the last time I had visited her. And when I would see her, she would always say, “hey Kev” or, “hey Dooch.” And it was as if I was walking through that sliding glass door at the age of 13 all over again, no matter how old I got. I think the memory that means the most to me is probably the most recent. As her time was getting closer and her words had all become silent, I knew that I had to speak to her. Even if only by phone, just to tell her I love her and to thank her for the pot-holders she had crocheted. And even though everyone understood it was probably just for my sake and my grandma wouldnt be conscience, and thankfully to my Aunt Jo and TroyKathy they held the phone to her ear and told her that I was on the phone. And she said, “hey Kev” before I could speak. She asked me if I got the pot-holders and I said yes grandma, and I told her I loved her. And that was the last we spoke. I knew in my heart that I’d be able to speak to my grandma and that she’d hear me. The next day I got in the car with the family and I tried to make it there just to see her one last time. Unfortunately, I didnt quite make it in time. But it seems like I just may have gotten to see her once more. And it’s nice to know she’s with my grandpa too. When I look at this picture I hear her say, “I’ma show you.” See Facebook friends & family & folks; as I mentioned before, this picture was courtesy of my mom. That is, pictures from my mom’s vacation to New York…that she took LAST WEEK! So maybe you believe, maybe you don’t. If you don’t, I’ll tell you like my grandma would tell you, “va cacca!”
