Today would have been our beloved, Jeanette Haines 117th birthday. Affectionately called: Mom, Grandma, Grandma Haines and Mother Haines, she was born January 3, 1898 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Turner and Belle Smith. When she departed us on July 30, 2000, she left to cherish her memory 8 children, 6 generations of grandchildren and 2 cousins Marge Johnson and Viola Harding and a host of friends and church family. Our beloved received many awards and acknowledgments for her contributions to her church and community. She was a member of FirstCorinthian Baptist Church, 5101 Pine Street in Philadelphia for sixty nine years. To God be the glory! Currently Mother Jeanette Haines is memorialized at First Corinthian Baptist Church with a Ministry named in her honor, Jeanette Haines Memorial Mothers Board. Twenty years ago, On May 21, 1995, a building was dedicated to her because she was one of the Mothers of First Corinthian Baptist Church and longest standing member at age 97. Did i mention, she had been a member for 69 yrs.? The building is entitled Jeanette Haines Annex of the First Corinthian Baptist Church. She was mentioned in their October 2009 bulletin.(Google - Jeanette Haines Annex First Corinthian Baptist Church) firstcorinthian.org She will forever be remembered for her delicious sweet potato pie, her modest appearance and her white room, which was bought alive in a stage play written and produced by her great-grandson Bryant Pugh in 2011.
