Todays Auto Tech: I sampled a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. On my way to deliver the car to a customer, just before the entrance to the George Washington Bridge there was an off-ramp to Fort Lee. I got a little too close to the Volkswagen in front, and all of a sudden, there was a loud chime, six red flashing lights at the top of the gauges, and the car applied its own brakes and held them briefly until the car in front pulled away! There was no imminent danger of a crash, the system, oversensitive as it was, beat me to the brakes. However, the gas pedal was temporarily disabled until the brakes were released.
