Todays Bluebird Farm introduction is Kaylin the Rooster. Kaylin - TopicsExpress

Todays Bluebird Farm introduction is Kaylin the Rooster. Kaylin belonged to a family who wrote to me in a desperate attempt to save his life.. Kaylins whole flock was killed by neighborhood dogs and she wasnt sure why he survived but she didnt want anything to happen to him. She told me that he never perched, he never went into their small two level coop - even in the Winter. She would find him covered in snow and would have to manually put him inside. When I finally got Kaylin to Bluebird Farm I did a health check on him. There was definitely something different about Kaylin. Firstly, the poor guy was so caked with lice I had to submerge him in a 5 gallon bucket and kill the infestation. Then I had to cut virtually all of his feathers off because they were dreads of lice casing.. When this poor naked guy got his vet exam it was determined that Kaylin was mostly blind and had the chicken equivalent of Downs Syndrome... Kaylin is one of the most fascinating animals I have here at the sanctuary, two Mille Fleur DUclee hens have taken it upon themselves to be his seeing eye hens- guiding him to shade and food etc. and I finally got Kaylin to perch!!! He chose my new roll of hose to perch on! So it now sits in his coop room..
