Todays Devotion Topic: Who are you? Text: John 18:4-5 For Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, Who is it you want? Jesus of Nazareth, they replied. I am he, Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) It is very obvious that our Lord Jesus knew who He was from day one. He knew He was the Son of God and Saviour of the world. His life style and choices had to merit His unique personality, calling and relationship with the Father. Jesus was always truthful about His identity even to the point of death. One day when Judas brought soldiers to arrest Jesus, they demanded for JESUS OF NAZARETH and our Lord replied I AM HE. In our lives, we are not always consistent with the truth about our personalities or our identity in Christ. Some of us, like Esau, do not really value our uniqueness, personalities nor our position in Christ. We could easily trade it for stew (something trivial). Others wouldnt mind hiding away from who truely they are when they suspect danger or social rejection. Others lie about their identity to gain a little more advantage over others. We lie about everything. Travellers travel in names that they dont know. People forge every single document to merit a visa. Businessmen and women hide away from the reality that business is good (which is a blessing from God actually) just to evade taxes and other social responsibilities. Brethren, let us value who we are and rise up to our true identity in Christ even in the view of opposition. We must not fear to own up even for our mistakes. Never lie about your identity to gain mans acceptance no matter what the outcome may be. Let us be truthful to one another. Meditate on this! Blessed week.
