Todays Hidden Blessing As always, I was rushing around this morning trying to get the kids off to preschool and daycare and I walk out the back door with baby and coats and lunches and coffee pulling the door closed behind me when I realize just as the LOCKED door closes that I didnt have my keys. No car keys. No house keys. I round up the kids (which is about as easy as I imagine herding cats may be) and get them in the van. I check the doors again. Back door - locked. Front door- locked. Bummer. Its cold out and it is already 10:00. I head back to the van, making a call as I go to get someone over who has a key. Of course the kids start arguing over a toy cat. My initial reaction was to scold them but instead I notice the toy spatula my 3 y/o son is holding (dont ask) and I asked him what he was doing with that in the yard. Then I ask him about mudpies and I tell them all about making mudpies in my driveway after a rain or in my cousins sandbox when i was a little girl. We all sit there for about 20 min just talking about mudpies. Hannah and Ben come up with some great ideas about mudpies and other mud creations. It was the best 20 min of my day all because I locked the keys in the house. God works in mysterious ways. I hear you Lord. I am listening and I got the message. Slow down. Dont be in such a hurry. Enjoy the precious moments and take the time to really talk to your kids. If you put the time in now, they will know they can talk to you when it really matters. They will know that you will listen.
