Todays Inspiration (To provide feedback, email us at prayer@princeministries.) Saturday, January 18, 2014 You have Strong Support! by Dianne Prince God rewards faithfulness. He takes special care of those who live right. How do I know? Because 2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him.” That is good news. God scans the horizon looking for those who live according to His Word. Regardless of how difficult His Word is for you to walk out; or how uncomfortable His commands make you when you obey Him; or how doing the right thing has landed you in a hard place, God is working in the background, lifting you up on every leaning side, holding you up on every weak side, and in some cases propping you up so you will not fall under the weight of your burden. God gives you strong support when you rely on Him. In our scripture today, God’s people are divided into two kingdoms – the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. Thus, there are two kings – Asa, the King of Judah (Southern) and Baasha, the King of Israel (Northern). Up to this point, Asa was a man after God’s heart. The Bible describes him as a man of integrity. When he took office, his priority was to rid the nation of idol worship, destroy all altars dedicated to false gods, and to eliminate ungodly religious practices. He travelled all across the land – city by city and town by town – and successfully rooted up and rooted out pagan practices. Asa got God’s people (Judah) focused once again on the true and living God. He successfully destroyed idle worship and he tore down the evil and ills of the people. The Bible says because of Judah’s rededication to Him, He granted Judah military peace. Now, Baasha, the King of Israel (the Northern Kingdom), had an active treaty with a foreign nation, the king of Syria, Ben-Hadad. In our scripture today, Asa’s devotion to God makes a turning point. In our lesson, Baasha (the Northern Kingdom) rises up against Asa (the Southern Kingdom) and prepares to go to war with him. Instead of depending on God, Asa pays the King of Syria to break his treaty with Baasha and to agree to a treaty to become the Southern Kingdom’s ally. The King of Syria agrees. God responds to Asa by telling Him, “Asa, “You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars.” (2 Chronicles 16:9) Our scripture goes on to tell us in 2 Chronicles 16:12, “And Asa fell sick in the nine and thirtieth year of his reign, of a most violent pain in his feet, and yet in his illness he did not seek the Lord, but rather trusted in the skill of physicians.” Asa died as a result of his trust in the physicians and his failure to trust God to heal him. Asa depended on the King of Syria to protect him instead of trusting in God. He depended on the physicians instead of trusting God. Allies are necessary and good, but allies are not God. God can use allies to help us, but we can not rely on our own intellect; our own knowledge; our own resources and our own strength in an attempt to solve our problems. Physicians are necessary. Physicians are good. However, physicians are not God. Yes, God uses physicians as His hands and His intellect to heal. But they are not smart enough, nor are they wise enough to know anything outside of God’s favor and God’s guiding hand. God is scanning the entire earth. He is looking for those who trust Him in all circumstances. When you trust Him with your most treasured possessions – your soul; your intellect; your money; your family; your health and all that you have, God will give you strong support. God is scanning the universe just for you. He is looking to see if you will seek Him first”. As God scans He sees your needs. Rest assured, when you put Him first, He gives you all the essentials you need to get through the day. Seek God first and He will give you strong support.
