Todays Lunchtime Concert is an all-British programme performed by the Anglo-American duo: American violinist Timothy Schwarz and pianist Jane Beament. Elgar’s Salut d’amor and Walton’s two-movement Sonata for violin and piano will frame the world premiere of Norfolk Suite by the young British composer Sophie Viney. Norfolk Suite is comprised of three movements – Lighthouse, Rough Tide and Sunrise over Cromer Pier. In the composer’s own words, ‘I have spent a great deal of time visiting the north Norfolk coast and go whenever I can. I am fascinated by the ever-changing canvas of the sea, sky and coastline – its unpredictability and contrasts – its peace and tranquillity, and, at other times, the force of the sea and the brutal nature of coastal erosion. These three piano pieces attempt to depict three different aspects of this magnificent landscape.’ The concert starts at 1.10pm and takes place in G10, Palmer Building, Whiteknights campus. As always, admission is free and all are very welcome.
