Todays New York Times crossword appears to have some really strange meta puzzle associated with it. The guy who wrote it is a professional magician, so it makes sense that he would do that. Im leaving this comment to everybody on FaceSpace to help me figure out whatever the hell the answer is (if any). **SPOILERS BELOW** Heres what we know so far: 1. The first letters of the clues, read in order, spell: COBALT HORSE, AMBER OWL, SILVER OX, RED DONKEY, EMERALD ROOSTER, OH BY THE WAY, THE SHEEP CAN BE LEFT ___. Looking at these, four of those animals are in the Chinese Zodiac (horse, ox, rooster, and sheep). Weve got two elements of the periodic table (cobalt, silver), two gemstones (amber, emerald), two other animals (owl, donkey), and a color (red). 2. The first letters of those words in #1 before you get to the bit about the sheep, read in order, spell out CHAOS and ORDER. 3. Two more Zodiac animals are part of answers in the grid itself (RAT and SNAKE). 4. Noting the EMERALD in #1, OPAL is an answer in the grid. 5. Noting the color red in #1, ASH is an answer in the grid, and the following colors are included as words in the clues: blue, yellow, brown. Any ideas? Help! The New York Times is obviously trying to tell us how to find either One-Eyed Willies treasure, or whatever crap Nicolas Cage will be seeking in National Treasure 3!
