Todays Roodoodles Longer post today to answer a question, I - TopicsExpress

Todays Roodoodles Longer post today to answer a question, I get often. Not why I paint roosters, you can find out more about that at roodoodles. But when and how I started to paint them. In 2005 in Washington DC I painted the soft-shelled blue crab- with a tiny brush in my travel journal with some tiny souvenir paints from the National museums gift shop. I saw the crab on the cover of a magazine. (photos below) My wife, who is a wonderful artist said that is really good. I was excited- it is.. you mean that? The next day I carried my canvas bag and journal and two inch watercolor box a bit more boldly. As we had coffee at the Watergate Hotel in DC- I painted these small birds begging for crumbs. Just seemed like one should be telling the other what to do. Do the broken wing thing and that human will toss more crumbs. The talking birds were born. If you are a poet you have to have lungs to exclaim, thus the rooster. The Rooster who is the farm bard, is the truth teller, he says whatever is on his head and heart. So I began sketching these small roos with Flair pens, the original pens from the 60s and 70s and using a small watercolor bush to blend. Side note; Flair was purchased by Rubbermaid, yes the trash can company, their pens have changed and not for the better. I know there is a joke there. I now search old desk drawers, storage closets, small town five and dimes for old inventory. These Roos with Flair said things that had more impact than my weak art. Remember I am a truth sayer, now I had roos speaking for me. I started painted in small Moleskine watercolor notebooks. My first Roo was 2006 in the little note book pictured. 2006 or 7. I am not a trained artist. I am not an art major. I really didnt even call my self an artist ( painter artist) until about two years ago. I traveled for many years as a singer, songwriter, storyteller, ( that type artist- but then those are the things roosters do. The humor is my view of life and love, serious captions are my world view also. I am a truth sayer. I enjoy life. We are here for an adventure and a story that makes a difference. I try to say most things with grace and humor, but I am not afraid to wade into deep weeds. Life is a gift, life is short. Art is a blessings from creation. I met Joe Miller a few years ago who owns Cheap Joes art stores. I started buying professional brushes and great paper, and retired by little gift shop paint to become a watercolor paint snob. I was encourage by a wonderful Chinese artist Lian Zhen to stay loose, back off, let the paint paint itself. So there. He did like my Loosters as he called them but forced me to paint a fish one day to work on my craft. Bottom line. Get out there a paint something. So there back to short post tomorrow. The little Roo pictured on the ripped out sheet of moleskine paper is todays Roodoodles for Auction. Bid in the comments. He starts at $7.80 the cost of a small moleskine watercolor journal. Auction ends at tomorrow after the rooster crows. Blessings to you who enjoy Roodoodles and their cavorting.
