Todays #WelderInTheSpotlight is Grant Dupill. He tells us: I started welding back in late 2009 after 1.5 years of being stationed in a remote TX/Mexico border town. The feeling of loneliness I experienced, and my inability to be the next bass fisherman on world famous Lake Amistad led to idle hands, and eventually metalwork. It started off innocently enough with simple projects on my 1956 Jeep and building BBQ smokers from steel drums. Shortly after, I caught the bug hard and taught myself basic MIG, stick, and blacksmithing skills under a small carport in base housing. I am still here in Del Rio, still active duty Air Force, and have begun recently promoting my work online and at craft fairs and shows in South Texas. Many great things have come from welding - from a sense of accomplishment all the way to meeting my wife (a story itself where a call for a model on Facebook to grace one of my sculptures led to meeting my best friend). Im not the worlds most technically proficient welder, but I enjoy every minute of creating. There is so much to learn and I cannot wait to see where experience and years take me. -Grant Dupill
