Todays Word 14th March 2014 March 14, 2014 at 10:54am “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord hath anointed me...” (Isaiah 61:1) Those words are Messianic in the Spirit. That means, the words actually belong to Messiah and are prophetic. The Spirit of the Messiah is speaking through the prophet before the Messiah had incarnated in flesh. We must remember an important principle of interpretation here. Though these and many other such words are Messianic, they also are applicable to the prophet who is prophesising at least in some measure. What I mean is this – initially the prophet Isaiah is testifying that the spirit of the Lord God is upon Him. After 750 years the Lord Jesus Christ came to this world and read out the same words and said “these words are fulfilled today”. In fact those words must belong to Messiah or Christ as He is more popularly known. In fact the word Christ itself means “anointed one”. It is natural that the Christ would testify that the Lord’s Spirit is upon Him. He would not be the Messiah or the Christ if the Spirit of the Lord has not come upon him. He was simply Jesus till the day of His baptism. But when the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a Dove and rested upon Him, Jesus became the Christ. Those who believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation are popularly known in this world as Christians. “Christians” mean the followers of the anointed ones. It is ironical and strange that many Christians today do not believe in the anointing of the Holy Spirit. There are many denominations who argue and contend that there is no such thing as the anointing or infilling of the Holy Spirit. They believe that Christ was anointed, but they contend that those who believe in Christ need not be anointed. It would be more apt and appropriate to call them Jesusians, instead of calling them Christians. We must realize that all those who follow the Jesus of Nazareth and put their trust in Him for their salvation, also can be anointed. Please notice that I am cautious enough to say that they can be anointed. I didn’t say that they should and must be anointed. Because the anointing of the Holy Spirit is granted to every believer but God would not force it upon every one. It is up to the believers to desire, to hunger to believe and to receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is affirmative testimony of the prophet and the Messiah that the Spirit of the Lord God is upon them. They are not doubtful of their experience. They are not uncertain. They are 100% sure that the Spirit of the Lord has come upon them. In conclusion, let me say this. It is impossible for anyone to be anointed without knowing it. If you are anointed, you will know it immediately. The experiences and the manifestations may be different with each person, but God will ensure that the anointed ones will know that they are anointed. Blessed is the Christian who can say in affirmative – “the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me”, because they will be powerful people on earth!
