Todays ag literacy pet peeve: inaccurate childrens books about farming! I just looked through a handful of books for younger children (looking for possible titles for our National Ag Week book donations to school libraries). Almost every single one has some good information that is completely negated by inaccurate photos and/or information on how our food is produced. My plea to publishers: PLEASE have your books reviewed by experts in MODERN agriculture before wasting money and paper publishing bad information!!! If I see one more photo of outdated equipment (milk cans?? Seriously?!) or misidentified photos (beef cattle portrayed as dairy cattle, sweet corn instead of field corn), I will scream. And my coworkers will think Im nuts.
