Todays first adventure took me exploring the west coast of the island. After taking a look at the map, I decided to checkout an area just outside of Machrie, where there were some caves. Today was a day for off-roading so Acorn had a rest and it was out with my off-road wheels and free-wheel. I found a place to park in a wooded clearing, and found a trail to follow that would take me to the Kings cave. It was described as a 2-3 hour walk including steep descents to the beach below where the caves could be found. I have never had any doubt about my capabilities or more to the point, my bloody mindedness, but after yesterdays challenge success I knew I could do anything. I couldnt wait to see what lay ahead on my trail. The day was beautiful, hot, sunny and perfect for exploring. The views spectacular and it was a good day for photos. At this point I feel I may be better leaving the photos to tell the story, but I will leave you with this, yes it was steep, yes it was mighty challenging, but spurred on even more by a couple approaching me telling me how awfully steep the path was about to get and how I would never get down there in a wheelchair, I just had to show exactly what I was capable of. My reply to them as they told me about the steep scree path ahead Oh goody! My favourite :D ha. I completed the trail in about 3 hours, partly pushing, (only once bounced out of my chair heading down the side of a cliff), partly for the ridiculous uphills, using my new found technique of pushing on my good leg, dragging my left, and using my chair backwards as wheeled zimmer, and also partly, rather expertly I feel, bum shuffling, for when my chair had gone as far as it could,.. not me though ;) Todays morale of the story.. Never miss leg day folks ;D
