Todays reading is 1Sam 23+24. This week (Friday) we will be starting into 2Samuel. Thought for the day: David enquired of the Lord we read this on two occasions in Chapter 23 and 9 times in total read read of David enquiring of The Lord. This is a key characteristic feature of David’s biography is that he frequently sought the Lord’s counsel and direction. This feature is not seen in any other biography in the Old or New Testament. Whenever David faced a trial, especially with his enemies, he always asked to know God’s will. And each time he inquired, the Lord graciously gave him a clear and definite answer. The West Wing, 24, The Following and other fast-moving television series portray presidents and leaders who make decisions in seconds. Important decisions seem are made waking a corridor between meetings while having rapid conversation with assistants or at 80 miles per hour whilst uploading data from CTU. These leaders know what needs to be done and make decisions on the hoof! It makes great telly viewing (in my opinion) BUT it underplays a vital part of life leadership: the time and discipline required to be still, reflect on our course of action and inquire of The Lord. A vital part of our life should be modelled on David rather that Jack Bauer! Creating time and space to pray, reflect and enquire of The Lord. How many bad decisions are make in a rush... Dont let your To-Do list take priority over your prayer list! Let reflection and prayer be at the heart of your life and work, make adequate space for reflection and prayer and dont let it become the first casualty of an overfill diary... Make your motto for the day inquire before action Hugs Mitch.
