Todays storm has wrecked havoc with the historic Hoffmann kiln on Featherston St. The kiln is the reason we have the pit that is now developing into Edwards Pit Park. At peak production enough clay to produce 9000 bricks per day was being extracted from the pit to feed the kiln. As a result of nil maintenance & significant neglect over a long period of time the roofing structure of this historic industrial building was not able to cope with the ferocious winds we experienced today. :-(
