Todays volcano update: Sigkatlar (depressions in the ice caused by sub glacier melting) have been spotted on Bárðarbunga, possibly (probably?) indicating a sub glacial eruption. Theyre not entirely sure because it got dark and the seismic activity is rediculous. The ice is 400-600 meters thick in that area, so its likely to cause a pretty massive jökulhlaup. Theyll be sending more observers in the morning. Meanwhile, the main dike continues plowing its way to Askja, and is likely to trigger a major eruption there if it reaches it. Ágúst Guðmundsson, professor of the geosciences department of Royal Holloway College in London says: The probability is now that, and I stress as the situation is at present, that theres a big probability that this dike will enter Askja. And given the size of the dike, i it enters the small magma chamber of Askja then theres a large likelihood that it will be at least breakage and probably an eruption. This is the first time, if it goes into Askja, then it will be the first time that we are seeing a primary conduit actually travel from one volcanic system over into a different one. And that can be said, with no ambiguity, dangerous. dailykos/story/2014/08/27/1325228/-B-r-arbunga-BREAKING-Sigkatla-Sighted-Visual-Confirmation-Of-Probable-Subglacial-Eruption
