Todays word: PERSECUTE If you see a policeman running after a thief, maybe youd say that he (the thief) was being persecuted by the policeman. But this is wrong! In this case PERSECUTE is a false friend. PERSECUTE has nothing to do with the fact of following someone. Its related to treat someone unfairly or cruelly over a long period of time because of their race, religion, or political beliefs, or to annoy someone by refusing to leave them alone. PERSECUTE is pronounced /ˈpɜː.sɪ.kjuːt/ Some examples of its usage: Religious minorities were PERSECUTED and massacred during the ten-year regime. His latest film is about the experience of being PERSECUTED for being gay. Ever since the news broke about her divorce, she has been PERSECUTED by the tabloid press. So, if PERSECUTE cant be used in the first sentence of this post, can you guess the correct word or words to be used there? Read tomorrows post to find out... ;-) Here below an interesting video about the difference between PERSECUTE and Prosecute. Have a nice day. :D https://youtube/watch?v=eMpRnIcBHXM
