Todays word: Possessing Gods Promises. Genesis 37:2-11; 42:6-7 Message by: Associate Pastor Norbert Mweetwa To possess is to have as belonging to one. In 2015 we want to possess the promises of God to have them as belonging to us. All the promises over our church as well as our individual lives. A promise is a declaration that something will or will not be done. Therefore to possess the promises of God means we will attain and we will have as belonging to us the declarations of God over our lives. When God makes a promise He has a purpose to fulfill. It is always for a higher good not only to benefit one individual but many are to be blessed by the ripple effect of His promises. From the main scriptural reference (Genesis 37:2-11) we see an account of Joseph and how God spoke to him through dreams declaring a promise. Through excitement Joseph shared his dreams with his brothers but their reactions were negative and contrary to a reaction one is to expect from a loved one. They rebuked him and later sold him to slavery. But through all the hardship the promise giver was with him! The Process: Joseph needed to go through a process before fully attaining the promises of God. From slavery he was promoted to run the affairs of Potiphars household. In his duty he remained faithful and the Lord elevated him and esteemed him in the eyes of the his ruler. He learnt accountability and responsibility as this was part of the process. But in spite of his faithfulness he still encountered challenges and this time it was Potiphars wife. Through her many advances toward him Joseph remained steadfast in obedience to God the one who had promised him! From Elevation to Prison: This transition was another part of the process. While in prison Joseph learnt how to manage people. It was from this very same place that the gift of revelation and translation of dreams was imparted on him. The promise giver was with him through it all! When you know the promises of God over your life you are unstoppable. Know His promises for yourself by reading His word and understanding what is yours. From this you will gain full knowledge of what God has set aside for you and in humbleness like Joseph you will wait on the God of your salvation and He will surely bring to life every dream and every promise. Josephs dream did not come to life over night. There is always a process involved before the full actualization of an event. God looks at the bigger picture as the promise is not meant to benefit you alone. The following are some of the conditions to possessing Gods promises: 1) Obedience; How are you living your life? Are you following Gods precepts and living in obedience? The word of God says if you are willing and obedient you will eat the good of the land. 2) Have Faith; If you are to possess Gods promises you need faith. Unshakable and unwavering faith standing on the word of God knowing that without a shadow of doubt it shall come to pass! 3) Maintain a Good attitude; Your attitude should remain good and steadfast in the Lord. In the valley of the process maintain a good testimony and build your character. What promises are you hoping to possess in 2015? Do you know the promises God has given you? Write them down so that 12 months from today you can testify and truly say all the promise God gave us He has fulfilled them. Enter 2015 ready to possess! ALL of Gods promises for you are YES and AMEN! God bless you!
