Today’s poem ~ October 3, 2013 ~ is by Joseph Whitten from his book “Learning To Tell Time,” published by Negative Capability Press. Ten Months After The Funeral I find I am accepting that you’re gone. The house we shared has settled over me as quiet days and nights became my own. Your death was not an unexpected death although its quick excluding swoop came on with shocking speed. No preparations made can ease the jolt of that first empty dawn— though now I am accepting that you’re gone. White Queen Anne’s lace borders the lower lawn, and lipstick-red begonias share cool shade with pots of maidenhair’s chartreuse chiffon. All things you loved are memory’s sweet breath. The house we shared has settled over me. Content in solitude, the shades undrawn, I find I am accepting that you’re gone.
