Today’s proceedings began with National Counsel for Nuon Chea - TopicsExpress

Today’s proceedings began with National Counsel for Nuon Chea Son Arun’s continued response to the OCP’s documentary hearing. The Counsel advised the Chamber to verify with a handwriting expert, whether or not the annotations attributed to his client were in fact his. Speaking from his holding cell, NC attempted to explain why he believed the Documents presented by the OCP should not be allowed and clarified his roles during the DK regime. Prosecutor Abdulhak raised the issue of Khieu Samphan’s recent decision to invoke his right to remain silent. KS responded personally that he is refusing to testify because “the Court has failed to respect my rights and the rights of my defense counsels” and that he has “no faith in this court.” KS’ International counsel further explained that this lack of respect is shown by the Chamber’s inability to address probative value, unfair limits imposed on the length of closing statements, and inconsistent procedure for submitting new evidence. Prosecutor Abdulhak called these objections a “charade” and that no breach of procedural rights have been made.
