Tokyo aims for hydrogen society www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/news/20150114_18.html The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will establish a fund worth about 340 million dollars to promote the use of hydrogen as an energy source. The Tokyo government officials have set the goal of achieving what they call a hydrogen-powered society ahead of hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in 2020. Their plan includes the use of about 6,000 fuel-cell vehicles, and setting up 35 hydrogen service stations to fuel them. To ensure the plan is not affected by swings in the economy, the officials decided to establish the fund during the next fiscal year that starts in April. The fund will be used to subsidize buyers of fuel-cell vehicles, and also businesses that introduce fuel-cell buses or build hydrogen service stations. The Tokyo officials are also considering subsidizing enterprises that use hydrogen energy in urban development projects.
