Tom Brady: We dont have all the answers By Mike Reiss | August 5, 2014 9:30:47 PM PDT RICHMOND, Va. -- The New England Patriots offense has received rave reviews in two days of joint practices with the Washington Redskins, but quarterback Tom Brady pumped the brakes a bit on Tuesday. I think it’s always challenging out there. I don’t think we have everything figured out, Brady said after a near three-hour practice, when told that he sometimes made it look easy in 11-on-11 drills. Tom Brady isnt quite ready to call the New England Patriots offense a well-oiled machine just yet. They have a great pass rush which really doesn’t come into play in those team drills that we’re doing. I have to drop back and find the open guy and get rid of the ball quickly because it’s usually not very good things happening when I’m holding the ball. So I try to get it out as quick as I can and get it to somebody who can actually do something with it because I can’t actually do anything with it other than throw it. Brady, as one would expect, has clearly been the best quarterback on the field in this setting. On Tuesday, there was a heavy focus on two-minute drills and red-zone work in the marathon practice. There’s not a lot of individual work in days like this. It’s just more competitive team stuff and we did a lot of different things, so well be able to learn from it, Brady said. When you practice against your own defense, you get a lot of the same looks, but what we’re seeing here the last couple days is pretty different than what our defense does so hopefully it serves us well in the long run. As for what Brady sees when he looks at the Patriots own passing game, it starts with familiarity. Unlike last year, when the attack was breaking in several newcomers, things have been a bit smoother in 2014. I think the more experience you have typically the better it goes and I think that we’ve had a lot of growing pains, he said. But that always happens and it happens with different parts of your team every year. Just the way football is now, it’s not going to be the same group every year, and there’s going to be some part of the team that hasn’t really advanced over the other part of the team based on the way a team turns over. There’s certainly more familiarity within the skill group, but now we have an opportunity to go out there and try to get a lot of good work done in the preseason games to prepare us for the opener. Asked if that means the Patriots are in better position for success, Brady wouldnt go that far. It’s hard to say. I think this team is a little bit different, but like I said the experience is very helpful and I think having the opportunity to play with Danny [Amendola] and KT [ Kenbrell Thompkins] and Aaron [Dobson] and Josh [Boyce], and Brandon LaFell comes in this year and he’s done a great job; James White has done a great job, he said. The more guys that we have on the same page, doing the right thing, that do their job really well dependably and consistently, the better we’re going to be.
