Tom Hanks delivers his best film role since playing Michael - TopicsExpress

Tom Hanks delivers his best film role since playing Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition (2002) with his star turn as Captain Phillips (2013), the action drama based on recent real-life events. Director Paul Greengrass brings to the big screen the story of Somali pirates boarding the US MV Maersk Alabama cargo ship in 2009 and kidnapping its Captain Richard Phillips and holding him for ransom in the ships lifeboat on the open water. The action is tension-filled in the confined space of the lifeboat as a US Navy ship tracks it and awaits the arrival of Navy SEALS to bring an end to the ordeal. The portrayal of the Somali pirates is first-rate by Somali emigres to the US that had never acted before they auditioned for the film. The raw emotion-filled final scene with Hanks as Phillips should guarantee Hanks another Best Actor Oscar nomination. Saw at Mayan theater. My rating 8/10.
