Tom Holmes Pickups- A Pair of Custom Wound 450/455 Humbuckers, Nickel covers Double Cream bobbins- they had been in a Nashville Custom shop 1963 ES 335 reissue, but I took them out before I sold it hoping to put them in something else. And Holmes’ pick- ups sound, as Riverhorse put it, beautiful – even more richly detailed than the typical vintage PAF, which seems raw – even crude in the bridge position by comparison. In fact, after all the countless pickup and guitar evaluations we’ve made since that trip to Houston to meet the six ‘59 bursts, we’ll credit Holmes for having created pickups that clearly, unmistakably stand out from all the rest. The Tonequest Report Ive compared these to Gibson 57s Lollars, Stevens, several Real Gibson Pafs several real Gibson Pat #s, standard Tom Holmes 450/455s and some more Ive forgotten about and theyre better than everything except exceptional old Gibson Pickups which theyre about equal to- honestly theyre like fairy dust on your guitar-I wish I had a guitar worthy of them but theyve been sitting in my drawer for the last year, and no guitar in sight. The wait time from Tom is over a year, and he stopped making them for a long time- not sure how much longer hell keep going- these go for 700-1100US on ebay in America. Grab em while you can Gassers!
