Tom Menino was a great mayor. He could have run for larger offices but he didnt because he was focused on doing his best for the city, and he didnt need to turn his life into a four-year campaign because people saw him out there working hard for Boston on a regular basis. (And also because he made it a point to talk to everyone - theres always been a joke that half the city had a conversation with him, one that appears to be substantiated by a recent Boston Globe poll. But thats how he found out what the people of the city wanted and needed, rather than relying on pollsters.) My father had a number of meetings with him and always had wonderful things to say about him and what he was doing for the city.
