Tomorrow! Parents & Student Groups call on PPS for Racial Equity Please attend a press conference with Portland Parent Union, Portland Student Union and Portland Teachers Solidarity Campaign to call for immediate funding of wraparound services, restorative justice instead of suspensions and expulsions, and for the School Board to settle fair contract, now, for the Schools Portland Students Deserve. We will also be expressing solidarity with a Grant High family whose son faces expulsion. This event takes place before the School Board meeting. Please come out to support and then attend the School Board meeting at 6 pm. Speakers: Parent from Grant High School whos child faces expulsion Sheila Warren, Director, Portland Parent Union Sekai Edwards, Portland Student Union Mer Rees, Portland Teachers Solidarity Campaign Emcee, Sarah Levy, Portland Teachers Solidarity Campaign Wraparound services include adequate and professional counselors, linking families to social services, healthcare, and nutrition programs. We call on PPS to end the suspensions and expulsions that impact students of color at 5x the rate of white students. Why is PPS paying 15,000/month for a retired union buster and millions for training that is not working? While the School Board stalls on the contract, students of color are most impacted by huge class sizes, lack of services and unfair discipline practices. We stand with teachers and ask for a fair contract, now, that gives Portland students the schools they deserve.
