Tomorrow on Wednesday, August 7th, more than 500 young people from across the globe will descend upon the great city of Chicago for the 16th Annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival. Poets will spit their truth, exchange their stories and become agents of change -- together -- to transform the world we live in. Take a look back at a poem by George Yamazawa representing Chapel Hill, NC from 2009 -- the last time Chitown hosted Brave New Voices. This poem was part of a "Hear Us Now" series encouraging young people to speak out against violence. Here we are in 2013, facing the same epidemic in our cities -- it is our duty to shake up the world, to put our poetry to use, to incite and inspire a generation to heal!
