Toms River Police Department: On July 17, 2014 the Toms River Police Department effectuated the arrest of a maintenance employee of The Fairways of Bey Lea for thefts over a two year period. The investigation began with reviewing jewelry and pawn database records. Nicholas Bradley was identified as a frequent seller who had made over 100 transactions at local pawn shops since April 2012. Investigators conduct reviews periodically where we track and identify individuals who frequently pawn merchandise in excess of what is considered to be normal. Nicholas Bradley, 32, Grinnell Avenue in Manchester, appeared on the list for several consecutive months. Detectives Roger Hull and Mark Bajada initiated a background investigation into Bradley and learned he was employed as a maintenance employee at the Fairways of Bey Lea, a residential rental complex in Toms River. When reviewing the images of items sold, we found one piece engraved with initials and a birth date. A computerized record search revealed a female residing at the Fairways with those initials and her date of birth. It was then learned that the piece was hers and she had no idea that it was missing. This identified her as our first victim. Subsequent victims were identified by the jewelry receipt database and through work orders provided by the staff at the Fairways, who are cooperating with us on this investigation. Nicholas was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, and one count of theft by deception at that time. Nicholas Bradley has been identified in the theft of jewelry and cash from apartments dating back to 2012. Nicholas would access apartments utilizing his master key to complete requested work orders for maintenance. He would then remain in the apartment and steal items, taking small amounts of jewelry and or cash that went unnoticed. So much so, that we received very few reports during that period. We have extensive evidence of other thefts that could be over 100 and are seeking assistance in identifying additional victims. If you resided in the Fairways of Bey Lea since 2012 and have missing jewelry, especially if you requested maintenance work, please contact Detective Roger Hull at 732-349-0150 extension 1291.
