Tonight - City Hall - 6:30 Do you want to see 2000 new homes in the city of Katy? I know I dont! City Council meeting tonight at City Hall - There will be some routine business, special use permits, HOT funds and discussion of the rescue of the ISO rating (that we were never really in danger of losing) and some self-congratulatory back patting for what theyve done to the Fire Department. The main item of interest is amending Zoning Ordinance # 621 by adding a new section creating rules for Master Planned Community Districts and also annexing some acres into the city limits for the new MPC. This is all about the new Cane Island Development. Rather than grant over 40 variances Rise Developers asked for they just created a new rulebook for this. Rise is a great company that builds quality neighborhoods but folks should care a lot about this development. There will be a public hearing but City Council is supporting the development and there is no stopping it. Granting smaller lots will allow this new community to build 2000 new homes in the city of Katy. We now have (at most) 3800 homes…so were about to increase our home sites by about 53%. By changing the rules weve made other builders here follow, were letting new growth manage our future. Life as we know it in Katy will never be the same. It will also take a huge amount of people and equipment to build Cane Island. When they break ground Cane Island Parkway (primary access point) will most likely not be open yet - so the trucks and construction mess will have come through Katy - the city should designate a truck route on Pederson Road and FM2855 to come around and back on Morton Road. What well get if they dont is big equipment moving by the homes and schools on Franz, Bartlett, FM 1463, Avenue D and more… Another great opportunity to see your government in action - tonight @ 6:30/ City Hall
