Tonight, I received an email from our conductor inviting me to participate in a paying gig this Thursday at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC. This would be my first paying music gig. I am humbled at the opportunity, and frankly a little nervous. I truly hope that I can live up to the expectations. As this is happening a week prior to the third anniversary of my dear Mothers passing, I neednt tell you the importance of this concert for me. It is as though it was meant to be, that more than mere coincidence is at play here. In 2012, I was granted an opportunity to share the stage with Tony Levin. Two years of practice, of blood, sweat and tears has now led me here, yet I still struggle with creative doubt, to this very day, right up to receiving this email. I must take a moment to thank Markus Reuter, Trey Gunn and our Aikido Sensei in Seattle for the teaching, training and skills that they helped me and all of the TOUCH GUITAR CIRCLE to develop. My adaptation of many of the techniques to balalaika practice have obviously paid off, though I am STILL far from reaching Level 2, my goal for this year. Trey told our group to go out and create some cool shit! I hope, if things go as planned, to do just that, but most of all to make the people listening happy, and my ancestors proud. Thanks for listening.
