Tonight I saw the screen version of Dylan Thomass Under Milk Wood - TopicsExpress

Tonight I saw the screen version of Dylan Thomass Under Milk Wood at the Belmont Cinema in conjunction with the Scottish Ballet. Released in 1972 Thomass play has been infused with the earthly presence of Richard Burton and Peter OToole. Burton wonders aimlessly through the fishing village of Llareggub accompanied by his lilting, vibrant tones. OToole intervenes at prosaic intervals. His eyes blind, his hair dusty grey. Then flashbacks splatter the narrative where OToole as Captain Tom Cat sports charcoal black hair, pirate ear ring and smokey exterior. Such wonder. Its a film full of earth and green. Vibrant, young and heavy. A film that heaves, bellows and seduces. A lusty film that weighs heavy on the eyes and echoes through the senses. A masterpiece in interpreting and extending the words of a truly wonderful and savoury poet.
