Tonight, I went to my Italian conversation course. The teacher asked me if I wanted to tell a bit about myself, about something thats important to me in my life, so Ive decided to tell the class something about New Model Army, in Italian. Unexpected, and unprepared, so it was very difficult. I think I managed quite well, I told them about the great people I met, and showed G&G live on YouTube. My classmates never heard of NMA, but were very interested. Now Im having some kind of a trip to melancholia lane. Watching the videos recently, the recent Dutch and German gigs and Nottingham, Paris and Amsterdam soon, made me realize how NMA has been a part of my life for ca. 29 years now.... sometimes, because of lifes choices, a bit less than other times, but always there. All kind of emotions come along, because of course so many different things happened through those years. I met so many great people because of this band. There are old friends I know for many years, new friends I met only recently, and people I havent met in real life yet. And there are friends Ive lost, friends that died. Relationships began, and ended, houses were lived in and left again. There were health issues, uncertainties and fears because of that. Choices in life were made, some better or worse than others. And always, there was and is NMA, everything it stands for helped me through the things in life. Good and bad, happy and sad, theres a song for everything. And theres the feeling of being a part of something great. The best choice I ever made in life, was when I was 17 and decided to go to a festival here in the Netherlands to see NMA live for the first time. I was overwhelmed by the music, the fans and the energy. That day, one of my greatest loves was born. Of course I couldnt explain this all perfectly well in Italian, but they got the point that this, this band, this music, and you all make me feel lucky and rich !!
