Tonight, Ive learned of the death of a great friend, a top bloke - TopicsExpress

Tonight, Ive learned of the death of a great friend, a top bloke and an slightly ageing mod. I knew Tony Langridge in his capacity as chairman of the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund (REMF). If there was money to be raised, cash to be given out, golf days to organise, Tony was your man. He approached his (unpaid) task with every ounce of wit, energy, enthusiasm and good nature as those who knew him would ever come to expect. For the past seven years, I have organised the annual REMF Challenge Match between Brighton Fans and Crystal Palace Fans at the Dripping Pan, Lewes. Tony was easy to work with, delegated brilliantly, and - when asked - presented the trophies with flair and elan. I also run the annual REMF Quiz NIghts. Partially thanks to the demise of Gullys Girls (and partially that no-one else in Tonys team turned up) Tony - that evenings Nobby No Mates - and my better half Daisy, sold the raffle tickets. No disrespect to the fine work of Gullys Girls, but Tony and Daisy raised the raffle ticket income by 40% over the previous year. Christ alone knows how they did it... My abiding memory is of Tonys smile. Its the product of an easy going nature, a good, close family around him, and a sense of unflappable cool. How was this? In the words of his favourite band - I Cant Explain... I will miss Tony. Many people will miss Tony. He was one of lifes good guys, and he been taken far, far, far too soon. Rest in peace, Tony. x
