The Song Box Presents: The Last Hombres with special guest Nick Vermitsky Saturday, October 26th, 8pm $15 Suggested Donation - Advance Reservations Required (see below) The return of The Last Hombres is one of the most anticipated reunions of the year. The group disbanded after its second release, “Redemption”. The lineup at that time consisted of Paul Schmitz, Russ Seeger, Michael Meehan and Levon Helm. The new lineup consists of the three core members, along with Hideaways keyboardist multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Chris James, and the group’s new drummer Tom Ryan, one of the most versatile and in-demand drummers on the New York music scene and one of the principals of the New York Roots Music Association (NYRMA). The Hombres have a convincing, well-crafted sound that revolves loosely around the Byrds / Gram Parsons / New Riders axis of 1971. Their music leans on roots and country rock but leaves plenty of room for Tex-Mex influences and, crucially, the fine songwriting instincts of its three core members. They have just completed their next project, “Shadowland”, at One East Studio in NYC. Recorded in the live room and mixed by famed engineer Yohei Goto, it features 13 new tracks enhanced with horn parts by the Hot Eight Band in New Orleans. For this Song Box show The Hombres will be performing semi-unplugged, and will be playing songs from their three albums “The Last Hombres”, “Redemption”, and the upcoming “Shadowland”. Hosting the show and warming up for the Hombres will be local guitar virtuoso Nick Vermitsky. Nick is a 30-year veteran player who has studied classical music and the art of Big Bill Broonzy and the folksingers of New England. He is a master of rapid-fire high-energy 6 and 12 string finger style playing a la Leo Kottke (one of his heroes). He peppers his performances with unusual arrangements of popular tunes as well as his own compositions and quirky humor. The Song Box house concert series is now in its 13th season. This month’s show will be held at a private residence in Seaford (south shore Nassau County). Seating is limited to about 35.
