Tonight at the City Council Meeting, boater John Mirassou, misled - TopicsExpress

Tonight at the City Council Meeting, boater John Mirassou, misled the public on our position that the CenterCal Mall project increases hazards to boaters. Mirassou obviously did not read the BBR assessment on which we based this position. Mirassou misrepresented our position stating our position was based on the increased use of the harbor by boaters. Actually, we state multiple times that the CenterCal Mall project will decrease the ability of the public to use our harbor. We DO state that due to configuration of the new boat ramp and its proximity to area where human powered watercraft (SUPs, kayaks), the concentration of these activities in the same small area of the harbor creates a hazard that does not exist today. In fact, Mark Hansen of the Redondo Beach Boaters Association agrees with this assessment. Just launched motor boats should not be in near proximity to the launch point for the human powered craft. And then throw into this basket the fact that both uses now empty into the turn basin where sail boaters turn into the wind to drop sail further concentrating traffic... and that creates a greater opportunity for incident and accident. As a boater, we dont know how Mr. Mirassou could draw any other conclusion.
