Tonight is the renewal of college basketball greatest rivalry. I call this sports page 4 corners. So here are 4 reasons that make Duke-Carolina GREAT. 1. The Players. After much research I found that since 1976 87 players combined has spent time n the NBA. In the 70s we were fortunate to see Point guard great Phil Ford, Mr Smooth Walter Davis, Mitch Kupcheck. For Duke, the great 1978 team with long range bomber Jim Spinarkle, Workhorses Gene Banks, Kenny Denard, In the 80s a magical decade for both programs. Get ready for these names. The one and only Micheal Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Rick Fox. For Duke, Johnny Dawkins, Mark Alerie, Jay Bilas and many many more. 2. The coaches. Dean Smith, Vic Bubas, Bill Foster, Frank McGuire, Coach K, who by the way Duke fans wanted to fire after year one, and finally Roy Williams. Basically the best of the best has coached at both schools.These coaches combined have won 9 NCAA Championships 3. The fans, No fans in the country are more passionate than the fans of the dark Blue and Baby Blue yet at the same time the REAL FANS respect each others programs.4. Finally each time these two teams play its for something important from being number 1 at the time to winning the ACC Championship. Something is always on the line when these 2 teams play. Now after reading this column is there any doubt Duke- UNC is as good as it gets. If u can think of other reasons please list them. Keith
